MAJESTIC RIDER
How many times do you tighten your girth?

Many people only tighten their girth once and others will tighten it 5-10 times. When I saddle a horse I put the girth on and just tighten alittle. Then I may go do something and I come back and tighten again. Then before I mount I check the girth again. Any time on my trail ride, I may stop and check it again. Now you may say if the saddle fits well, you don't need a girth that tight, but if a horse ever spins and you lose your balance and the girth is not tight, the saddle can also spin and ends up on the side of the horse or worse at his belly. So besides you falling off, your horse now thinks the saddle is going to kill him and he may hurt himself running with the saddle under him.

You never know when a horse may spook or spin, so it is best to be prepared and have your equipment working correctly to avoid preventable accidents such as the saddle slipping. A girth was created for a reason, and it was not as a decoration for your saddle.
